STB ( Ukrainian СТБ - Світ телебачення ) is a private television broadcaster in Ukraine . It can be received almost nationwide and is considered the largest private broadcaster in the country.

history

The station was founded in 1997.

At the end of the 1990s, the broadcaster, which also reported independently about competitors of the Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma , was hindered by a tax investigation with subsequent account blocking and the refusal of a satellite license, which meant that it was temporarily only receivable in the Kiev area. After a change of ownership, which came about through the acquisition of a majority stake by Lukoil , the station was converted into a government-related information channel in 2000. In April 2010, STB journalists complained about systematic censorship of their work. In 2001 "STB" was registered as a trademark .

In 2002 there was another program reform, in addition to information programs, entertainment programs were broadcast again, including reality and talk shows. As audience interest sank, Lukoil tried to sell the station and sold it to the StarLightMedia Group in 2004 .

In 2005 the program was revised again, and in 2006 STB was one of the five broadest television channels in Ukraine. In 2007, STB had the third-highest market share among viewers over 18 with a market share of 8%. In May 2009 STB launched the Ukraina maye Talant format , the Ukrainian version of the internationally successful Britain's Got Talent format . In October 2011, the broadcaster acquired a new OB van with mc²56 equipment. A 16 + 16C + 16 console with 240 DSP channels was installed. Since then, STB has been producing with mobile technology.

As a result of the Crimean crisis , its broadcast in the Crimea was stopped on March 9, 2014.

Together with the public broadcaster and EBU member UA: Perschyj , STB is organizing the Ukrainian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , called "Widbir".
