STOXX Limited is a global index issuer based in Zug (Switzerland). STOXX was founded in February 1998. Since 2019, it has been part of Qontigo, which was created through the merger of STOXX, DAX and Axioma and belongs to the Deutsche Börse AG Group . Qontigo is headquartered in Eschborn with key locations in New York, Zug and London. STOXX calculates more than 10,000 indices. The Swiss indices, u. a. SMI and SPI were spun off in 2016 in favor of SIX Swiss Exchange . More than 500 companies worldwide hold licenses from STOXX to use the indices as the underlying for Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), futures and options , structured products and passively managed investment funds .

The first two indices were the EURO STOXX 50 and the STOXX Europe 50 . Today the indices of the STOXX family cover all world markets. Such indices serve on the one hand as a benchmark for actively managed securities funds and on the other hand are the basis for financial instruments such as index certificates or index funds .
