The SV Borbeck (officially: sports club Borbeck 1893/09 e. V. ) is a football club from the Essen district Borbeck-Mitte . The first team played for four years in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.

history

SV Borbeck was created in 1951 through the merger of TuRa 09 Borbeck and Germania Borbeck . Both clubs played in the Ruhr district class at the time . Two years after the merger, it was promoted to the Lower Rhine regional league , the highest amateur league at the time. After two years in the midfield of the league, the team succeeded in 1956 as third in qualifying for the newly created Association League Niederrhein . Despite the reinforcement by August Gottschalk from Rot-Weiss Essen , the class could not be held.

In 1959, Borbeck went back to the district class and was runner-up in the following two years behind SuS Kray-Leithe and TuS Essen-West . In 1966 the Borbeckers were relegated to the district class. In the following decades the team reached from 1969 to 1979 and from 1983 to 1985 again the district class or district league. After several relegations, SV Borbeck plays in the district league C in the 2016/17 season.
