The history of the club goes back to 1912. At that time, gymnastics enthusiasts built a small sports field in a forest in Zwätze and founded the "1. Gymnastics Club Zwatzen" there. When a foundry of the Carl Zeiss main plant was demolished in 1928, the construction material that became available as a result was used to create the first gymnasium in Zwatzen. The inauguration took place two years later on October 25, 1930. From then on, the sports of the time were first recorded in writing. Handball, soccer, athletics and hiking were all launched. In addition, a choir was created. With the gym, a handball court was created, which at that time together limited an area of 90 × 48 m. After the Second World War , the club was renamed Blau-Weiß Zwatzen in 1946 and Lok / Post Jena in 1950. In the 20th anniversary of Lok / Post Jena, great sporting successes have been achieved in the newly introduced sports archery, gymnastics, bowling for the disabled, badminton, bowling, bike ball and chess, as well as in the already existing sports handball and soccer. In the years 1971 to 1990 the association was then classified under the name BSG Carl Zeiss Jena-Nord in the Carl Zeiss combine. In 1974 a disabled swimming group was formed. The election of Klaus Rößler as chairman of the association in 1991 represented a high point for the association after the fall of the Wall. He managed to compensate for the lack of money caused by the departure of the sponsoring companies by finding a new sponsor, the "City of Jena". Since then, the club has been operating under the name “SV Jena-Zwätze e. V. ”.
