The SV Wesseling (completely Spielverein Wesseling 1919 eV ) was the oldest football club from Wesseling in the Rhein-Erft district . The first men's team played for two years in the highest amateur league in the Middle Rhine region.

history

The origins of SV Wesseling go back to a football department formed within TV Eintracht Wesseling . On June 1, 1919, the separation from the gymnast as the Rheinbund Wesseling took place . In 1921 the name was changed to SV Wesseling and the West German Game Association joined. Ten years later, the team rose to the then second-class 1st district class Rhine . Due to the league reform of 1933, the Wesselinger went down to the district class.

After the end of the Second World War , SV Wesseling made it to the district class in 1948. Three years later, he was promoted to the state league , the then highest amateur league on the Middle Rhine. The team stayed here for two years before going back down to the district class in 1953. The team conceded 140 goals this season, losing 0:12 at SC Fortuna Köln and 0:14 at SV Bergisch Gladbach 09 . Three years later, the Wesselinger returned to the state league, which was only the second highest amateur league due to the simultaneous introduction of the Mittelrhein Association League. There the team was runner-up in 1957 and 1958, behind TuRa Bonn and Siegburger SV 04 .

In the following years the team slipped back into mediocrity and in 1964 had to relegate to the district class. It was not until 1979 that the company was promoted again before SV Wesseling took third place two years later. In 1984 and 1985 the team was runner-up behind TuS Lindlar and the second team at SC Viktoria Köln . In the first runner-up championship, the Wesslingers won the decider against SV Hoengen 2-0, but stayed in the state division because Oberliga champions Rot-Weiss Essen failed in the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga . After many more years in the midfield of the regional league, the team finally rose in 1996 to the regional league.

In 2000 the Wesselinger descended into the district league. There, however, SV Wesseling no longer competed . At an extraordinary general meeting on March 25, 2000 the dissolution was decided. The members then joined the local rival Blau-Weiß Urfeld , which changed its name to Spvg Wesseling-Urfeld .
