Toponymy

The origin of the name is explained differently by historians, one of them says, "Sabará" is the abbreviation of the term Tupi tesáberabusu, which means "big bright eyes" (tesá, eye + berab, brilliant + usu, grande), in relation to the gold nuggets, found in the region.
