Sabayon Linux is a Linux distribution developed in Italy . Sabayon Linux is based on the Gentoo distribution and places particular emphasis on hardware recognition and graphic effects.
history
The distribution was created in October 2004 under the name "RR4" or later also "RR64" for the 64-bit version as a finished Gentoo system. In August 2006 it was renamed Sabayon Linux 3.0 .
Sabayon has been a rolling release since Sabayon 6 .
scope
In contrast to most live distributions, Sabayon is a DVD with a size of around 2 GB. Sabayon tries to deliver an appealing multimedia environment out-of-the-box . Most of the drivers for this are supplied on the DVD.
Sabayon supports KDE and Gnome equally as standard, they are offered on separate live DVDs. In addition, live DVDs with Xfce , Mate , LXDE and a live CD with Enlightenment are also offered, but these are in an experimental status. There are also the versions ServerBase and SpinBase (both without the X Window System ). Another specialty is the handling of proprietary software , which Sabayon does not separate from free software in any way. The non-free graphics card drivers from ATI and Nvidia are installed automatically. Also, Google Earth is one, as is the legally controversial library libdvdcss , a standard feature.
technology
Sabayon Linux can be started as a live system directly from the DVD / CD. The installer can be updated before the installation. Sabayon Linux uses equo as the package management system, with which mainly precompiled software can be managed using commands in the command line. A parallel operation of equo and the Portage known from Gentoo Linux is possible and intended for advanced users.
