Life
Wolff grew up in a nurse's family and was raised religiously. In 1799 he received his doctorate in Frankfurt / Oder, a year later he settled in Berlin as a doctor and practiced until 1826. Between 1792 and 1819 he participated intensively with his writings in the discussions about emancipation and civic improvement of the Jews . As a reformer, he turned against traditionalist Judaism and at the same time against the anti-Judaism of his time.
As early as the late 1780s he met the Jewish philosopher and enlightener Salomon Maimon . In 1813, thirteen years after Maimon's death, Wolff published his Maimonia , an important biographical source on Salomon Maimon to this day.
Wolff died in Berlin in 1832 or 1833.
