Aviva Slesin
Aviva Slesin (born before 1975 in the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic ) is a Lithuanian - American documentary filmmaker and film producer . She received an Oscar in 1988 for her film The Ten-Year Lunch and is a member of the Directors Guild of America and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences . Slesin is also a painter .
Career
Slesin's career began in 1975 as a freelance film editor with the documentary The Other Half of the Sky , which was produced by Shirley MacLaine and received an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary . She then worked on Making Television Dance , a film about choreographer Twyla Tharp , followed by The Rutles , a 1977 satire about the Beatles by Eric Idle .
1980 Slesin first worked as an independent film producer and director with nine comedy short films for the original Saturday Night Live . In 1986 she was the director and editor of the film Directed by William Wyler , a biopic by Hollywood director William Wyler .
In 1987, Slesin won an Oscar for Best Documentary for her film The Ten-Year Lunch through the Algonquin Round Table . In 1990 she continued with Stood Up! a television episode. The following year she made Voices in Celebration , a documentary to mark the 50th birthday of the National Gallery of Art . In 1993 and 1994 she produced and directed Hot on the Trail for TBS television.
From 1995 to 1998, Slesin made a number of short films for The Rosie O'Donnell Show , Kids Talk , John Hockenberry's Edgewise , Real Sex and Religion & Ethics Newsweekly . In 2003 she released the film Secret Lives , which was nominated for an Emmy and won a Christopher Award .
