The Sabine Glacier is a glacier on the Davis Coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It flows into Orléans Street between Cape Wennersgaard and Cape Kater .
In February 1829, the British polar explorer Henry Foster named an object southeast of Cape Kater as Cape Sabine . However, this supposed cape could not be identified. Therefore, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee transferred the designation to the glacier described here on September 23, 1960. It is named after the Irish astronomer and geodesist Edward Sabine (1788-1883), a member of the planning committee for Foster's Antarctic voyage with the HMS Chanticleer in 1829.
