Sabine Alt (* 1959 in Berlin ) is a German writer .

Life

Born and raised in Berlin, she also studied German language and literature , mathematics and pedagogy and after passing her state exams she worked as a teacher at a Berlin grammar school. She is married to Peter-André Alt and when he accepted a position at the Ruhr University in Bochum , she moved to Hattingen with her family in 1995 . Today she lives in Berlin again.

Works

In Hattingen she wrote the two satirical novels "Kira Royale" and "The beautiful lies of Maria Wallot" as well as the thriller "Children of the Water". Her second detective novel "Weras Talent" was published in 2005 and revolves around the strong woman Wera Pratzinger, a professor of art history who is involved in several murders. In 2006 the psychological thriller "Greta's Metamorphosis" was released, a triangle story set on Mallorca. In 2007 Fischer-Verlag reissued the crime thriller “Children of the Water”, in which a sibling relationship is portrayed, in the vicinity of which mysterious deaths occur over the years. In November 2008 the psycho-thriller “Vergiss Paris” was published, in which a Berlin architect falls (without realizing it) in love with a murderess. In “Against the Light”, a well-known Berliner threatens to reveal a hidden outrage. Sabine Alt's crime novels are anything but conventional Whodunnits. They live from the search for psychological abysses in perpetrators and victims. The focus is not on the investigator, but on the crime and its causes. Therefore, the author is often compared to Patricia Highsmith or Ingrid Noll. In her short stories, the author uses an evil humor that has earned her various awards. Sabine Alt was nominated for the Carinthian Crime Prize 2008 and is one of the winners of the Book Journal Literature Competition 2008 and the Agatha Christie Prize 2009. She took first place in the eighth authors' competition in 2009. She has been nominated again for the Agatha Christie Prize 2010.
