Subject index
A subject index (or subject index ) is a structured , list-like and quickly accessible collection of information on material goods and / or subjects.
This umbrella term includes:
Classic files and directories
- The classic way of a card index in a box - where each index sheet provides a summary of information about a product , topic, book, etc.
- topic-related filing of descriptions and data in office folders - mostly in A4 format . Even with smaller quantities
- alphabetical lists with the names of the above items - and mostly also references where more details can be found - e.g. B.
- Register that records the technical terms occurring in a work
- The table of contents of a book, or the list of its key words (usually at the end of the book)
- Bibliographies , reference works and encyclopedias
