Bouvet Island

The Sachsebåane ( English Sachse Rocks ) are a group of reef rocks washed over by the sea immediately north of Bouvet Island . They are located around 300 m southeast of Cape Valdivia .

They were mapped and named in December 1927 during the first Antarctic voyage of the Norvegia (1927–1928) financed by the Norwegian whaling entrepreneur Lars Christensen under Captain Harald Horntvedt (1879–1946). It is named after Walter Sachse, navigation officer on board the Valdivia during the Valdivia expedition (1898–1899) under the direction of Carl Chun , during which the geographical position of Bouvet Island was precisely recorded for the first time.
