The Sachsenente is a Saxon breed with a blue-yellow color that was first presented by Albert Franz in Chemnitz in 1934 . Due to the Second World War , it was not recognized as a breed until 1957.

History and dissemination

In 1924 Albert Franz started to breed the breed with a Rouenente and a blue Pomeranian duck . It was only eight years later that the first appealing animals came close to the desired color. The German Peking duck was crossbred later . A possible crossing of Orpington ducks is controversial.

Franz first introduced the new breed in 1934 in Chemnitz-Altendorf . Since after the end of the Second World War there were only a few animals left, Albert Franz had to start breeding again in 1952. From 1957 the breed is recognized in the former GDR . 1958 followed the establishment of the special breeding community and the recognition in the FRG .

Because of its success as an economic breed, the breed quickly achieved international distribution: in 1965 in Switzerland and 1968 in France, later England and the USA followed. Today the Saxon duck is bred worldwide, in Europe the German standard specifications from the Association of German Poultry Breeders apply .

The drake is feathered blue on the head and neck up to the closed, white neck ring, the chest is colored chestnut red. The duck has pea-yellow, orange-colored feathers. The face is drawn on both sides with two almost white stripes, the upper one extending behind the eye, the lower ending under the eye.
