Sadaejuui (literally: serving the great ism; 사대주의 , 事 大 主義 , Chinese  事 大 主義  /  Pin大 主义 , Pinyin Shìdàzhǔyì ) is a Korean political term that developed in the 20th century and is mostly used in North Korea .

term

The term comes from the Chinese philosopher Mencius and was used historically to describe Korea's closeness and connection to Chinese culture . In the context of Korean nationalism , however, it is reinterpreted as a pejorative description of Korea's subservience to China and Japan, but also to colonial actors such as Russia and the USA . The opposite thesis is Juche , which was elevated to the state ideology of North Korea.
