Mehmet Refik Safter Çınar (born May 20, 1946 in Brussels ) is a German-Turkish trade union official. He is one of the federal chairmen of the Turkish community in Germany (tgd) and migration commissioner of the German trade union federation (DGB). Çınar is a German and Turkish citizen and has lived in Berlin since 1967 .

Life

Mehmet Refik Safter Çınar is the son of the Turkish university professor Tevfik Ali Çınar and his wife Füsun. From 1951 he attended a primary school in Istanbul 's Nişantaşı district . From 1956 he attended the German Gymnasium in Istanbul (Alman Lisesi). After graduating from high school, in 1967 he began studying business administration in Berlin (West) at the University of Applied Sciences for Business . In 1974 he married Eva Steinhäuser; they have two daughters.

Services

From 1979 to 1991 Safter Çınar was an employee of the Neukölln student counseling service in the New Education working group . From 1991 to 2006 he was the head of the foreigner advice center of the German Trade Union Federation ( DGB ), Berlin-Brandenburg district. He is an examiner at the State Examination Office for Translators (German / Turkish) in Berlin.

Union functions

From 1983 to 1991, Safter Çınar was second chairman and from 1989 chairman of the Education and Science Union (GEW) Berlin, making it the first union leader of Turkish origin in a German city. From 1985 to 1991 he was a member of the main board of the GEW. From 1987 to 1991 he was also chairman of the Federal Committee on Multicultural Affairs of the GEW. Safter Çınar is the representative for migration and integration issues of the German Federation of Trade Unions (DGB) in Berlin-Brandenburg. From 2003 to 2012 Çınar represented the DGB in the State Advisory Board for Integration and Migration Issues of the Senate of Berlin and worked, among other things, on the Berlin Participation and Integration Act.

Participation in migrant associations

Safter Çınar is a founding member and was from December 1991 (except July 1999 to January 2000) to March 2011 the spokesman for the Turkish Federation in Berlin-Brandenburg. He is a founding member and was treasurer of the Federation of Turkish Parents' Associations in Germany from 1996 to 1997 FÖTED. He is a founding member and was 2nd chairman of the Turkish Community in Germany (TGD) from 1997 to 2002 and also a member of the federal board in 2002. Safter Çınar was chairman of the Turkish Parents' Association in Berlin-Brandenburg from 2004 to 2007 and vice chairman from 1997 to 1998. He is co-founder of DOMiD - Documentation Center and Museum about Migration in Germany eV Çınar was elected in May 2014 as one of the federal chairman of the TGD. In protest against the former federal chairman Kenan Kolat and the handling of his financial conduct within the TGD, Safter Çınar did not run again at the extraordinary congress in June 2015.

Positions

In 2007 Çınar spoke out against the compulsory German at schools and spoke of discrimination in this context.
