Said Japarowitsch Amirov

Said Japarowitsch Amirow ( Russian : Саи́д Джапа́рович Ами́ров; born March 5, 1954 in Levaschi Rajon , Dagestani Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic , USSR ) is a Russian-Dagestani politician, economist, former mayor of Makhacha . In 2013, he was charged with terrorism charges and involvement in contract killings and sentenced to life imprisonment.

biography

Amirov is an ethnic Darginer . He earned two degrees in economics - 1983 at the Institute of Food Industry and 1992 at the University of Engineering and Economics in St. Petersburg . In 2006 he received a doctorate. Amirov taught at the Dagestani State University and was a member of the Academy of Social and Human Sciences and the Russian Municipal Academy.

Between 1971 and 1991 Amirov held various positions in the consumer cooperatives in Dagestan and held the post of chairman of the Dagpotrebsojus consumer union .

Amirov was deputy chairman of the State Council of the Russian republic of Dagestan from 1991 to 1998 and is also the founder of the Dagestani People's Reform Party. In 1998 he was elected mayor of Makhachkala with more than 70% of the vote and was subsequently re-elected until 2013. He was also twice named the best mayor of Russia .

According to his own statements, there were more than 15 attempted assassinations against Amirov. The most violent of these occurred in September 1998 when a bomb went off near his home in Makhachkala. 20 people died in the immediate vicinity.

Arrest and conviction

In early June 2013, Amirov was arrested on suspicion of having commissioned a murder. He was accused of organizing the murder of investigator Arsen Gadschibekov in 2011. According to the news agency Life News , investigators came to the conclusion that the Amirov involved in drug trafficking criminal group Kolchosniki was connected.

In July 2014 Amirov was from Moscow he Basmanny court sentenced (Басманный суд) initially for plotting terrorist attacks to 10 years imprisonment in a penal colony. In August 2015, he was charged with other serious acts. As a result, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. The attempt to challenge the decision at the Supreme Grecithshof of Russia failed and the verdict became final in March 2016.

In October 2017, the European Court of Human Rights complied with Amirov's complaint that Amirov was not allowed to be held in a remand prison with poor medical care due to his serious illness.
