Sailing was one of the first songs to be digitally recorded with a 3M digital recording system . It was first published on June 15, 1980. In the United States and Canada , the soft rock ballad became a number one hit. The song is about the feeling of freedom of sailing. The refrain reads “Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be. Just a dream and the wind to carry me. ” In the mid-1980s the song was heard in an advertisement for the Aeroméxico airline .
Awards
At the Grammy Awards in 1981 won with Cross Sailing in the categories of Single of the Year ( Record Of The Year ), Song of the Year ( Song Of The Year ) and Best Arrangement with vocal accompaniment ( Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocals ).
