The Saint-François-Xavier metro station is an underground station on line 13 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located in the Quartier des Invalides in the 7th arrondissement of Paris . It is located lengthways below the Boulevard des Invalides at the intersecting street Rue d'Estrées - Rue de Babylone.

Surname

The eponymous Place Saint-François-Xavier was renamed in 1919 and has been called Place du Président-Mithouard since then. In order not to confuse passengers, the old name was retained for the station. François Xavier (1506–1552) was a Christian missionary who lived in Paris for several years and whose name was given to a nearby church.

History and description

The station was opened on December 30, 1923, when the first section of the then line 10 of the Compagnie du chemin de fer métropolitain de Paris (CMP) between the Invalides and Croix-Rouge stations was put into operation. On July 27, 1937, the routing of some metro lines in the south of Paris was changed, from then on line 14 operated at the Saint-François-Xavier station. On November 9, 1976, it was connected to line 13 and received its line name. Line number 14 was assigned to a new line in 1998 .

The station lies under an elliptical , white tiled vault, its side walls follow the curvature of the ellipse. It is 75 m long and has two side platforms on two parallel tracks. In 2012 the platforms were provided with platform screen doors.

The only access is at the southern end of the station at Place André-Tardieu. It is marked on both sides by a candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the Art Deco style . The design for the neoclassical stone parapet that frames it comes from Joseph Cassien-Bernard .

vehicles

Line 13 has been used by vehicles from the MF 77 series since 1978 . Before that, trains from the MF 67 series were in service there , which in turn replaced the Sprague-Thomson trains in 1976.
