Saint James is a district of the capital of Trinidad and Tobago , Port of Spain, incorporated in 1938 .

The district borders on Cocorite to the west , Woodbrook to the southeast, St. Clair to the east and Ellerslie Park and Maraval to the north .
history
St. James was incorporated into Port of Spain in 1938. Gary Goodridge was born there in 1966 and began his martial arts career in boxing in Saint James. The Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC) was located in St. James until 1992 .
Culture
In St. James there is a monumental tomb in the shape of a building, which commemorates the Shia Muslims who immigrated in 1945 and worked on the sugar cane plantations. The Ta'ziya (Muharram Passion Celebrations) commemorations are held here every year. The St. James area also includes Fort George , which was Trinidad's main defensive structure in the early 18th century. Singer Nicki Minaj was born and raised in St. James in 1982 before moving to New York City with her parents .
