Thorstein HH Thoresen

Thorstein Hartvig Haugen Thoresen (* 1885 ; † 1956 ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1939 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Dakota .

Career

Nothing is known about Thorstein Thoresen's youth and schooling. But he must have studied law. Politically, he was a member of the Nonpartisan League, which was mainly active in North Dakota, and then the Republican Party . Between 1918 and 1922 he served as the prosecutor in Dunn County . In 1924 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of Attorney General of his state. Four years later he failed with a candidacy for the post of governor . From 1925 to 1929 he was a tax officer of his state ( Tax Commissioner ).

In 1936 Thoresen was elected lieutenant governor of North Dakota alongside William Langer . He held this office between 1937 and 1939. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He then applied again unsuccessfully for the office of governor. Between 1940 and 1944 he was mayor of the city of Grand Forks . In 1950 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . He died in 1956.
