Charles Tighe

Bernard Charles Tighe (born January 21, 1927 in Fargo , North Dakota , †  December 13, 2004 in Bismarck , North Dakota) was an American politician . Between 1965 and 1969 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Dakota.

Career

Charles Tighe attended Fargo High School until 1944 and then studied at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana . He then served in the United States Navy . After studying law at the University of North Dakota and being admitted to the bar in 1951, he began working in this profession. In the meantime he was also deputy public prosecutor. He has become a member of several federal and state law associations.

Politically, Tighe joined the Democratic Party , which in North Dakota calls the Democratic-Nonpartisan League Party . In 1964 he was elected lieutenant governor of North Dakota alongside William L. Guy . He held this office between 1965 and 1969. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He was the first lieutenant governor of North Dakota to serve a four-year term after constitutional reform. After serving as Lieutenant Governor, he returned to practice as a lawyer. In the mid-1980s he had to give up this job for health reasons. He died in Bismarck on December 13, 2004.
