Clarence P. Dahl

Clarence P. Dahl (born March 22, 1892 in York , Jackson County , Wisconsin , †  October 23, 1976 in Bismarck , North Dakota ) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1961 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Dakota three times .

Career

Clarence Dahl attended the common schools and a trade school in Winona ( Minnesota ). From 1912 he lived in the town of Jessie , North Dakota, where he worked in trade and as a farmer. He was also known as an auctioneer. In 1948 he moved to Cooperstown .

Dahl was politically active since 1916. At that time he was involved in the founding of the Nonpartisan League , of which he was a member until 1934. Then he switched to the Republicans . Between 1938 and 1944 he was a member of the North Dakota Senate . In 1944 he was elected lieutenant governor of his state alongside Fred George Aandahl . He held this office between 1945 and 1951. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1950 he waived re-election. Instead, he returned to the State Senate for a legislative period. Between 1953 and 1957 he was under Governor Norman Brunsdale again Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota. In 1956 he waived a possible re-election. In 1958 he was re-elected to the second highest office in the state, which he held for the last time between 1959 and 1961 under Governor John E. Davis . In 1960 he applied unsuccessfully for the office of governor. He was then director of the State Laboratories Department for four years . Then he retired. He died on October 23, 1976 in Bismarck, the capital of North Dakota, where he lived and was buried since 1960.
