Ruth Meiers
Ruth Meiers (born November 6, 1925 - March 19, 1987 ) was an American politician . Between 1985 and 1987 she was lieutenant governor of the state of North Dakota .
Career
Ruth Olson, her maiden name, was the daughter of Axel Olson, a member of the House of Representatives from North Dakota . After finishing school, she was a social worker in the field of childcare. She also chaired the Mountrail County Welfare Committee . Politically, she joined the Democratic Party . In 1974 she was elected to the state parliament as her father's successor, where she remained until 1984.
In 1984 she was elected Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota alongside George Sinner . She held this office between 1985 and her death on March 19, 1987. She was Deputy Governor and Chairwoman of the State Senate . Ruth Meiers died of complications from cancer.
