Anton Kraabel

Anton T. Kraabel (born October 16, 1862 in Gudbrandsdalen , Norway , †  June 17, 1934 in Circle , Montana ) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1915 and again from 1917 to 1919 he was Lieutenant Governor of the State of North Dakota .

Career

At the age of four, Anton Kraabel and his family came from his homeland in Norway to the United States, where they settled in Wisconsin . Later he worked on farms and in sawmills. Nothing is known about his school education. He moved to North Dakota, where he also got some jobs in various industries. Eventually he settled in Clifford and ran a goods store there. In 1899 he was one of the founders of Clifford Bank . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Initially, he held a few offices at municipal and district level. In 1903 and 1904 he was a member of the House of Representatives from North Dakota ; from 1905 to 1908 he was a member of the State Senate .

In 1912 Kraabel was elected lieutenant governor of North Dakota alongside Louis Benjamin Hanna . He held this office between 1913 and 1915. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1914 he sought re-election, but failed in his party's primary elections. Two years later he was re-elected lieutenant governor. So he was able to exercise this office again between 1917 and 1919 under Governor Lynn Frazier . In 1918 he failed again in his party's primary elections when trying to be re-elected. After his time as Vice Governor, Anton Kraabel was a member and chairman of various committees. He helped found the Traill County Telephone Company and was its president for twelve years. He died on June 17, 1934 in Circle.
