John H. Fraine

John H. Fraine (* 1861 in England , †  May 15, 1943 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1917 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Dakota .

Career

John Fraine studied law and then started practicing as a lawyer in Grafton, North Dakota. During the crackdown on civil unrest in the Philippines around 1900, he was a soldier in a volunteer unit from North Dakota. His unit was later incorporated into the national guard of his state. He commanded this unit during a border conflict with Mexico in 1916 and then during World War I.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1909 and 1914 he was a member of the House of Representatives from North Dakota , whose speaker he was in 1913. In 1914 he was elected lieutenant governor of North Dakota at the side of Louis Benjamin Hanna . He held this office between 1915 and 1917. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In the primary elections of 1914 he had beaten his predecessor Anton Kraabel , who was to become his successor again. John Fraine later moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he became a legal advisor to the Veterans' Administration . He died there on May 15, 1943.
