Brent Sanford (born 1971 or 1972 in Watford City , McKenzie County , North Dakota ) is an American politician . In 2016 he was elected lieutenant governor of the state of North Dakota. He took up this position on December 15, 2016.

Career

Brent Sanford studied at the University of North Dakota until 1994 . He became a Certified Public Accountant . Between 1994 and 2002 he worked for the service provider Eide Bailly LLP in Fargo , which is active in this field . He was then Chief Financial Officer of Transwest Truck in Denver , Colorado until 2004 . He then returned to Watford City, where he took over the car dealership for his family.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 2006 and 2010 he served on the Watford City Council. In 2010 he was elected mayor of this place. He held this office until he took office as Vice Governor. In 2016, Sanford was elected Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota, alongside Doug Burgum . He took up this position on December 15th. He is Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate .
