John H. Worst

John H. Worst (born December 23, 1850 in Ohio , †  September 25, 1945 in San Marino , California ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Dakota .

Career

John Worst attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree at Ashland College , he was admitted to the bar. Since 1883 he lived in Emmons County in what was then the Dakota Territory . There he worked as a school councilor for six years. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1889 and 1894 he was a member of the North Dakota Senate .

In 1894 Worst was elected lieutenant governor of North Dakota alongside Roger Allin . He held this office between 1895 and 1897. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. Between 1895 and 1916 Worst was President of the North Dakota Agricultural College (NDAC), now North Dakota State University . With the financial help of Andrew Carnegie , the institution experienced a rapid boom during Worst's leadership. After the end of his presidency at NDAC, Worst published the New Rockford Daily State Center for a year . Between 1919 and 1923 he was state commissioner for immigration issues. After that, he retired. He died in San Marino on September 25, 1945.
