Alfred Dickey

Alfred M. Dickey (born January 10, 1846 in Indiana , †  January 26, 1901 in Johnson County , Indiana) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1891 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Dakota .

Career

Nothing is known about Alfred Dickey's youth and schooling. He arrived in the Dakota Territory at an unknown time , where he founded the Wells and Dickey Company in the city of Jamestown . He also became President of the James River National Bank there . He also founded the Jamestown Library Association . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . In his new home he soon became a man of considerable wealth and one of the most prominent residents of the area.

After North Dakota joined the Union, Dickey was elected Lieutenant Governor of the new state alongside John Miller . He held this office between 1889 and 1891. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1890 he refused to run again for this office. In 1893 he was state commissioner of North Dakota for the World's Fair in Chicago . He died in Indiana on January 26, 1901.
