Henry Holt (politician)

Henry Holt (born November 13, 1887 in Elgin , Illinois , †  March 2, 1944 in Grand Forks , North Dakota ) was an American politician . In 1943 and 1944 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Dakota.

Career

Nothing is known about Henry Holt's youth and schooling. He came to Grand Forks, North Dakota at an unknown date and became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1934 he ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate . In July 1940, he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago , where President Franklin D. Roosevelt was nominated for the third time as the party's presidential candidate.

In 1942, Holt was elected Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota alongside John Moses . He held this office between 1943 and his death on March 2, 1944. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Holt died of lung cancer. He was the first Democrat to serve as lieutenant governor of North Dakota.
