Orville W. Hagen

Orville W. Hagen (born September 26, 1915 in Watford City , McKenzie County , North Dakota , †  June 24, 2007 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1961 and 1963 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Dakota.

Career

Orville Hagen was the son of Oscar W. Hagen , who was also Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota between 1941 and 1943. He attended his homeland public schools and then Dickinson State College . He later worked in the newspaper industry. He initially worked for his father's newspaper, the McKenzie Counter Leader . After that he worked for various other newspapers. In the meantime he worked in this branch in Alaska for some time until 1941 . By 1946 he was then the newspaper Williston Herald in North Dakota out. For the next 20 years he worked as a farmer on his farm near Arnegard .

Hagen was a member of the Nonpartisan League and then the Republican Party . Between 1953 and 1956 he was a member of the North Dakota Senate . In 1960 he was elected lieutenant governor of North Dakota alongside William L. Guy . He held this office between 1961 and 1963. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. Between 1967 and 1987 he was his state's Minister of Labor as Commissioner of Labor . In 1980 he failed in the gubernatorial election of his party. During his politically active time he lived in Bismarck , the capital of North Dakota. He later returned to Watford City, where he died on June 24, 2007. He had been married to Astrid Berg since 1939, who died before him.
