Wayne Sanstead

Wayne Godfrey Sanstead (born April 16, 1935 in Arkansas ) is an American politician . Between 1973 and 1981 he was lieutenant governor of the state of North Dakota .

Career

Wayne Sanstead was born in Arkansas. Later he attended St. Olaf College in Northfield ( Minnesota ), where he studied rhetoric and political sciences. He later studied at the University of North Dakota . While still in Minnesota, he began a career in education. He was a teacher in the local town of Luverne before moving to Minot , North Dakota in 1960 , where he worked as a high school teacher for 18 years. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party , which calls itself in North Dakota Democratic-Nonpartisan League Party . He served eight years as an MP in the North Dakota House of Representatives and served on the State Senate for two years .

In 1972, Sanstead was elected Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota on the side of Arthur Link . He held this office after a re-election between 1972 and 1981. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was Minister of Education of his state ( North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction ) between 1985 and 2013 . This made him the longest-serving Secretary of Education in all US states.
