Saint Seiya - Soul of Gold ( Japanese 聖 闘 士 星矢 黄金 魂 , Saint Seiya: Ōgon Tamashii ) is a web anime series by the Tōei Animation studio from 2015. It is an offshoot of the Saint Seiya franchise and tells a new story around the gold saints called holy warriors of the goddess Athena.

The Gold Saints, the twelve golden warriors of Athena, destroy the wailing wall of the underworld in the fight against Hades and perish themselves in the process. The lion's warrior, Leo Aiolia, comes to life in Asgard. He helps the temple servant Lyfia to escape from the soldier of Andreas Lise, the new priest of Odin. Lyfia tells him that Andreas grew the forbidden tree Yggdrasil and will bring great danger to Asgard. First, however, Yggdrasil's growth makes Asgard's climate warmer and more fertile, making Andreas popular with the country's residents. His soldiers now hunt down the Gold Saints together with his god warriors because he fears their interference. The Saints have problems in battle, as the land of Asgard protects the warriors who come from it - Aiolia is only at a disadvantage in his fight against the warrior of God Gullinbursti Fródi. But then he receives new armor that makes him stronger.

When the Saint Aries Mu is captured by the warrior god Níðhöggr Fáfnir, he learns that the power of the resurrected Saints is being siphoned off for Yggdrasil's growth. Like most of the other awakened Saints, he sets out to find the others and learn the reason for their rebirth. The stubborn Cancer Deathmask and Aquarius Camus, who is bound by an oath to the warrior God Eikþyrnir Surt, oppose their comrades.

Production and publication

The series was produced by Tōei Animation in 2015 and directed by Takeshi Furuta . Toshimitsu Takeuchi wrote the concept and scripts . The character design was done by Hideyuki Motohashi and the artistic direction was Yoshimi Umino . From April 11 to September 26, 2015, the 13 episodes were posted on the Bandai Channel website, one every two weeks . The Crunchyroll platform distributed the series internationally via streaming, subtitled in various languages, including English and German. The station Mangas showed the anime on French television, and it was translated into Spanish and Portuguese.

The music for the series was composed by Toshihiko Sahashi . The opening credits are underlaid with the song Soldier Dream ( 聖 闘 士 神話 （ソ ル ジ ャ ー ド リ ー ム） ) and Yakusoku no Asu e ( 約束 の 明日 へ ) by Root Five was used for the credits .
