Sakıp Sabancı

Sakıp Sabancı (born April 7, 1933 in Akçakaya near Kayseri ; † April 10, 2004 in Istanbul ) was a famous Turkish industrialist and philanthropist from the Sabancı family .

Life

After the death of his father, the company's founder, Hacı Ömer Sabancı , Sakıp Sabancı founded Sabancı Holding in 1967 , which includes Turkish companies as well as several minority and majority holdings in world-famous companies such as B. IBM , Dresdner Bank , Masterfoods , Nestlé , Toyota .

Sakıp Sabancı founded many social institutions in Turkey, which include a university, schools, kindergartens, children's villages, schools for the disabled and a social pension fund. Among other things, he was one of Turkey's greatest art patrons and owned an important collection of Ottoman calligraphy . Most of his art collection can be viewed in the Sakıp Sabancı Müzesi in Istanbul.

In 1992 he received the Japanese Order of the Sacred Treasure with Gold and Silver Star (2nd class).

Sabancı died of complications from a kidney tumor and left behind a fortune of 2.65 billion euros. The big industrialist was ranked 147th on Forbes' list of the richest people in the world during his lifetime .
