Sakoko (mythical creature)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A sakoko is a mythical creature from the Southeast Asian island of Timor .

Legend

The descriptions and stories differ in different parts of the island. The being is said to have chicken feathers and the body and skin of a snake, but is only visible to a few people. Others describe it as a colorful bird with a long tail, which, depending on its will, can take the shape of other animals or humans. Again and again they mate pigs. As offspring, white piglets are believed to be evidence of such a gathering. White horses, buffalos , chickens, other animals and human albinos are also said to be descendants of Sakokos.

The Fataluku believe, instead of the sakoko, of a green snake named Akka , who is said to have the same shapeshifting abilities and who are also said to have white descendants.

Others

The battle name of the East Timorese politician Ilídio Ximenes da Costa is "Sakoko".
