Oda Sakunosuke ( Japanese 織田 作 之 助 ; born October 26, 1913 in Ōsaka , † January 10, 1947 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese writer.

Oda began studying at Kyoto University . A hemorrhage forced him to drop out of college and spend two years in the country. Even after that, he was unable to continue his studies and turned to literature. He wrote novels based on Stendhal and was nominated for the Akutagawa Prize for his debut works Ame ( ; 1938) and Zokushū ( 俗 臭 ; 1939) . Meoto zenzai ( 夫婦 善哉 ) followed in 1940 . Some of his works were banned in Japan during World War II. Oda died in Tokyo in 1947 as a result of another hemorrhage. In 1983 the Oda Sakunosuke Prize was donated in his memory . In addition to Dazai Osamu , Sakaguchi Ango and Ishikawa Jun , Oda belongs to the Buraiha group of writers .
