Salama III. († October 25, 1867 ) was a metropolitan of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church .

The Copt , who was educated in Cairo , was ordained bishop of Ethiopia by the Copt Patriarch Peter VII of Alexandria in 1841, while still in his twenties, and reached Gondar on February 25, 1842. There he soon came into conflict with King Śahla Śellase († 1847) , excommunicated him and was then banished to Tigre. In 1854 the future emperor Tewodros II brought him back to Gondar, whom he crowned " King of Kings " on February 11, 1855 . A conflict soon arose between the two over questions of state church law. In 1864 Tewodros († April 12, 1868) exiled Salama III. to Magdala Fortress , where he died in captivity on October 25, 1867.
