Art Nouveau building

In 1909, the architect August Endell built a corner shop in the Art Nouveau era on the grounds of the Salamander House.

Reinforced concrete skeleton construction

Salamander house

In a competition in 1988, a design by the architect Volkwin Marg won , so that a little later the old reinforced concrete skeleton structure was demolished and from 1990 to 1992 the salamander house with a gross floor area of 8,800 m² was built by the architects Gerkan Marg & Partner . description

The building is characterized by its double-shell facade and its advertising tower at the eastern corner of the building. The first two floors of the Glass Palace are offset to the rear so that colonnades are created. Eight pillars support the building there and then extend from the second floor as pillars through the house to the roof. Vertical window fronts extend from the second to sixth floors. The transparent two-story shop fronts with recessed galleries on the upper floor are designed as arcades . Winter gardens are set into the facade from above at the same distance . These winter gardens not only create a friendly atmosphere, but also serve as a cold and sound buffer to Tauentzienstrasse . At the upper end of the facade there were two salamander logos on a cube in a round field, now the Adidas logo is emblazoned there .
