Saldula orthochila is a bug from the family of saldidae (Saldidae). It is not certain whether the species belongs to the genus Saldula .

features

The bugs are 3.4 to 4.7 millimeters long. Saldula orthochila has a pale spot on the edge of the hemielytres near the apex of the corium and can thus be determined. The margins of the pronotum are rather straight. Most animals have slightly shortened hemielytres, very rarely they are also fully developed (macropter).

distribution and habitat

The species is widespread in Europe to the north of the Mediterranean area and is found scattered in parts of Siberia, in the Caucasus and across Central Asia to China. The species is widespread in Central Europe, but is more common in the northern half of Germany and the Alpine region. In the Alps, it rises to well over 2000 meters above sea level. The species is widespread in the UK but is more common in the north. In contrast to the other Central European species, habitats are colonized regardless of high humidity and away from water. They can even be found in loosely overgrown sandy grasslands and on loamy ruderal areas that are largely free of vegetation. It is also common on short-grass pastureland.

Way of life

The animals should also feed on springtails and fly larvae that live on sheep and cattle droppings on pastures when there are many individuals . At higher altitudes and in northern Germany, the development and the number of generations probably do not differ from the other Central European Saldula species. Under ideal conditions, a second generation should be trained every year.
