Helmut G. Pratzel

Helmut Georg Pratzel (born January 27, 1935 ) is a German chemist and balneologist .

Career

1954-1960 he studied chemistry at the University of Greifswald (graduate chemist), received his doctorate in 1969 as a biochemist at the University of Munich Dr. rer. nat., completed his habilitation in 1985 at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (Dr. med. habil.) and in 1991 was appointed professor for physical medicine , balneology and climatology . From 1961 he worked as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Medical Balneology and Climatology at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich and retired in 2000 as academic director.

He taught organic chemistry , clinical chemistry and radiochemistry as a lecturer at the state school for radiology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (1974–1995). He was a member of the Drugs Commission B8 of the Federal Health Office for the subject of pharmacology (1984–1993).

As Congress President, he headed the 32nd World Congress of the International Society of Medical Hydrology and Climatology (ISMH), 1994 in Bad Wörishofen and Bad Nenndorf , the 1st International Symposium "Sulfur in Medicine" in Bad Nenndorf 1990, the 1st International Symposium "Radon in Spa Medicine" in Lacco Ameno , Ischia 1994, the 2nd International Symposium "Sulfur in Spa Medicine" in Bad Nenndorf 1994 and was honorary president of the 33rd World Congress of the ISMH in Karlovy Vary , Czech Republic 1998, of the ISMH- Congress Edipsos / Greece 2000 and the 34th World Congress of the ISMH in Budapest 2002.

He headed the following major projects: BMU project “Determination of human radiation exposure after skin contact with radionuclides” (1986–1991), EU project “Management and Economics Training for Personnel of Russian Sanatoria” (1998), BMBF project “Tbodiner Senior Technik Ambassador "(2013-2014).

Honors

For his scientific work he received the Golden Kneipp Medal (1976), Golden Prix ​​du Thermalisme (1993) and the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon (2003).

He is an honorary member of the Sociedad Española de Hidrología Médica and the Societas Medicinae Balneologicae Polona. He was President of the International Society of Medical Hydrology and Climatology (ISMH) (1991–2003), founder and chairman of the German section of the International Society of Medical Hydrology and Climatology eV (1992–1998), and founder and chairman of the following associations: Tbodiner Forum eV (since 2003), Seniors 'Advisory Board Demminer Land eV (since 2012), Association for the Promotion of Student Sailing in Greifswald eV (since 2005), District Seniors' Advisory Board Mecklenburg Lake District (since 2012).
