Sale is a town on the outskirts of Manchester ( England ) and belongs to the Trafford area . Sale grew especially in the age of the railways , when the Manchester – Altrincham line was built around 1849. Today Sale has almost 60,000 residents, the railway line is now used by the Manchester Metrolink ( light rail ).

Sale Sharks rugby team is from Sale but now plays in Stockport .

The world headquarters of International Inner Wheel is located in the city .

Sale is eight kilometers southwest of Manchester city center. The neighboring cities to the north and south are Altrincham and Stretford, and the district of Wythenshawe extends to the south-east. The city is located in the Mersey Valley about 30 meters above sea ​​level . The River Mersey , named after the valley, flows north of the city and is regularly flooded when it rains heavily. In order to be able to control the water in the city center, a canal was created.
