Sale is a town on the outskirts of Manchester ( England ) and belongs to the Trafford area . Sale grew especially in the age of the railways , when the Manchester – Altrincham line was built around 1849. Today Sale has almost 60,000 residents, the railway line is now used by the Manchester Metrolink ( light rail ).
Sale Sharks rugby team is from Sale but now plays in Stockport .
The world headquarters of International Inner Wheel is located in the city .
geography
Sale is eight kilometers southwest of Manchester city center. The neighboring cities to the north and south are Altrincham and Stretford, and the district of Wythenshawe extends to the south-east. The city is located in the Mersey Valley about 30 meters above sea level . The River Mersey , named after the valley, flows north of the city and is regularly flooded when it rains heavily. In order to be able to control the water in the city center, a canal was created.

The ground in Sale consists of sand and gravel that came from the last ice age around 10,000 years ago. The bedrock is red sandstone in the west and Trias Wasserstein in the east. The drinking water supply comes from the Lake District .
