Sally Heckel

Sally Heckel (* 20th century in Rochester ) is an American film director and producer .

Life

Sally Heckel grew up in Rochester, New York. In 1974 she graduated with a Masters in Film from the New York University Graduate Institute of Film / TV . During her student days, she made the short films Ordinary Days and Lou , which tell of life in New York City . In 1977, It's Not a One-Person Thing was published , covering the work of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives .

In 1980 she made the two short films The Bent Tree and A Jury of Her Peers . The latter is based on a short story by Susan Glaspell . The 30-minute work was performed at the Academy Awards 1981 as Best Short Film nomination. The Bent Tree, on the other hand, uses sand animation and is based on the Yiddish folk song Oyfn weg shtyt a boym by Itzik Manger , which was composed in 1938 in the Warsaw ghetto .

In 2008 she released Unspeakable , her first feature film in which she tries to come to terms with her father's suicide 20 years ago.
