Salmon River State Forest is a state forest in the US state of Connecticut in the area of the parishes of Hebron , Marlborough , Colchester , East Haddam and East Hampton . It now comprises 2,794 hectares (6,000 acres) of which 530 hectares are leased by the United States government .
geography
The State Board of Fisheries and Game acquired the first land in 1934. The area has good fishing waters such as the Dickenson Stream , Blackledge River , Jeremy River, and Fawn Brook , which flow into the Salmon River above Comstock's Bridge . Comstock's Bridge is the last remaining covered bridge in east Connecticut. It bridges the river near Route 16 in East Hampton. Other major transportation routes are Connecticut State Road 2 and Connecticut Route 66 . Further north on the Blackledge River is Gay City State Park .
Freetime activities
There are a number of hiking trails in the forest. These include the Salmon River Trail and a section of the Air Line State Park Trail . Fishing options include a fly fishing area that is handicapped accessible and an area for veteran disabled people. There are also opportunities for hunting, picnicking, mountain biking and other outdoor activities.
