Salomão Barbosa Ferraz

Dom Salomão Barbosa Ferraz (born February 18, 1880 in Jaú , Brazil , † May 11, 1969 ) was a Catholic bishop in Brazil.

The former Presbyterian and ordained Anglican priest in 1917 , founded the Iglesia Católica Libre in 1936 (predecessor of today's Igreja Católica Apostólica Independente do Brasil ) and was elected its first bishop, but not consecrated. He was married and the father of seven children. At the age of 65, he was ordained a priest on July 18, 1945 and bishop on August 15, 1945 by the former Roman Catholic Bishop of Botucatu Carlos Duarte Costa . In the Igreja Católica Apostólica Brasileira founded by Duarte Costa on July 6, 1945 in Rio de Janeiro shortly before, he officiated as the first diocesan bishop of São Paulo .

On December 8, 1959, Salomão Ferraz was under Pope John XXIII. inducted into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. On May 10, 1963, now at the age of 83, he was appointed titular bishop of Eleutherna . Since the validity of the episcopal ordination donated by Duarte Costa was not in question, a renewed ordination sub conditione was waived. He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father. After almost 24 years of episcopate, he died on May 11, 1969 at the age of 90.
