Salon International de l'Artisanat pour la Femme

The Salon International de l'Artisanat pour la Femme ( SAFEM for short ) is an international trade fair for handicrafts by women held biennially in Niamey .

SAFEM was created on the initiative of the Nigerien Ministry of Crafts. The first edition took place in 2000 in the Nigerien National Museum . Since 2001, the fair has been held every odd year at the Village artisanal de Wadata handicraft center in the Wadata district . Aïchatou Boulama Kané , who was appointed governor of Niamey in 2011, took over the management of SAFEM in 2006 . The sixth edition in 2009 had 92,126 visitors and 656 exhibitors, including 440 women. In addition to leather, pottery and wicker goods, food and cosmetics are also part of the fair's product range. Each edition pays special attention to a changing region of Niger. SAFEM's supporting program includes music, dance and drama performances.
