Salsa is the Spanish word for sauce . In the German-speaking world, the term salsa is mostly used for typical forms of preparation in Mexican cuisine that are seasoned with chilli. The salsa is usually made from tomatoes (red) or tomatillos (green) and chillies , onions , garlic cloves and - depending on the recipe - other ingredients. Although it is often used cold as a dip (e.g. with tortillas and tacos ), it is usually cooked during production. An exception is pico de gallo , a traditional salsa, the ingredients of which are only served raw.
