Salvador Betervide

Salvador Betervide (born February 6, 1903 in Melo ; † November 26, 1936 ) was an Afro- Uruguayan politician .

Attorney Dr. Betervide was the editor of La Vanguardia and co-founded together with Ventura Barrios (1896–1952), Pilar Barrios (1899–1974) and Elemo Cabral (1887–1969) on May 9, 1936 in Montevideo and then first president of the Partido Autóctono Negro (PAN ). He came from the northeast Uruguayan city of Melo . He died shortly before his candidacy as the first Afro-Uruguayan for the presidency of Uruguay, so that he was replaced in this position by Mario R. Méndez .
