Salvador Fidalgo
Captain Don Salvador Fidalgo (* 1756 , † 1803 ) was a Spanish navigator , explorer and hydrographer on behalf of the Spanish Crown.
Life
In the 1790s he explored the west coast of America south of Alaska, u. a. the Nootka Sound . In 1790 Fidalgo named the port of Valdez (Alaska) after the Spanish naval minister Antonio Valdés y Basán. Furthermore, in 1790 Fidalgo named the Orca Inlet near Cordova (Alaska) "Puerto Córdova" after the Spanish admiral Luis de Córdova . He never saw Fidalgo Island , which was later named after him .
