Salvador Mercado (born March 25, 1969 in Mexico City ) is a retired Mexican soccer player who played in midfield .

Life

Mercado began his career in the Mexican Primera División in 1990 with the Cobras Ciudad Juarez , with whom he was relegated to the second division two years later . His stations in the next three years are uncertain.

In the 1996/96 season he was under contract with the newcomer Atlético Celaya , for whom he completed a total of 28 missions and scored eight goals. For the Toros , he first came on the eighth matchday in the away game at Club America (1: 4). From the 18th matchday (1: 2 at Tecos UAG on December 22, 1995) to the finals against Club Necaxa , which (after 1: 1 and 0: 0) were only lost due to the away goals rule , Mercado came in every game and played in the entire season - the last in which the season was not yet divided into two tournaments - a total of 28 missions and 25 of them over the full distance.

For the following season he moved to the Mexican record champions Chivas Guadalajara , with whom he won the 1997 Torneo Verano championship, the second half of the 1996/97 season, a year later , but only made four brief appearances throughout the season (i.e. no game denied over the full distance) and not scored a single goal. In the championship itself, he only played six minutes on the first day of play at the UNAM Pumas (1: 2) when he came on for Missael Espinoza six minutes before the final whistle .

He completed the 1997/98 season with the Tiburones Rojos Veracruz , for which he appeared 19 times and scored one goal, but at the end of the season he was relegated to the second division for the second time during his career (in this case the Primera División ' A ' ) had to accept.

Mercado later played again with Atlético Celaya and ended his active career in 2004 with the US club El Paso Patriots , for which he was once again head coach in 2007.

successes

  • Mexican champion: Verano 1997 (with Chivas Guadalajara)
  • Mexican runner-up: 1995/96 (with Atlético Celaya)

Individual evidence

  1. Indication of the second first name according to the profile at BDFA
  2. The profile at Mediotiempo listed under the web links does not name his stations in the period between 1992 and 1995, which shows that Mercado did not perform in the first division during this time. It is possible that Mercado continued to be under contract with the Cobras between 1992 and 1994 until they withdrew from the league in 1994.
