Salvatore Corsitto (born January 9, 1913 in Canicattì ; † April 6, 1999 ) was an Italian actor .

life and work

Corsitto was a Sicilian stage actor . He studied acting at the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica in Rome . His best-known role in a film was that of the undertaker Amerigo Bonasera in The Godfather , who told the fate of his daughter to the godfather Don Vito Corleone in the opening scene of the film . He got the role in the godfather through an open casting for Italian actors. He also played in the 1973 film What Are Best Friends For? .
